Our part in the first ever UK deep water soloing competition

We are proud to be sponsoring and delivering personal performance coaching at the UK’s first ever artificial Deep Water Soloing Competition in Exeter this month. The event, taking place on the weekend of 30-31 August, will attract the elite of the climbing community to compete as well as other climbers and children wanting to try the event.  As climbing instructors, both Ian and Keith of A Mind for Adventure are both excited about the event and thrilled to be part of the activities.  Deep water Solo climbing is the most free form of climbing, where the climbers do not use ropes and when they get a point where they can no longer climb, they will drop to the water.

What the climbers have to say….

Neil Gresham, one of the UK’s leading climbers, said:  “This event is one of the most exciting things to happen on the UK climbing scene in years.

“Deep Water Solo climbing is one of the most visual and free forms of climbing you can experience.

“This will not only be fantastic for the sport of climbing in general but will do wonders to promote it locally in a region that has a lot to offer those looking for a Deep Water Solo adventure.

“ I can’t wait for my chance to go to head to head with Britain’s best climbers!”

The logistics – the hardcore climbers

The competition wall will be erected by Entre-Prises (UK) in the city’s canal basin at the Exeter Quay Climbing Centre who is managing the event.

This event is set to become a major event in the city’s cultural calendar. In terms of format the weekend will be split between the qualifying rounds that will take place on the 30th and the finals will which take place on the 31st.

There will be an elite (invitation based) category and an open categories (open to under 16s) to ensure that the even is inclusive to the wider climbing community as well as being a showcase event on the national climbing calendar.

It is open to climbers aged 12 and upwards but all participants must be able to swim at least 25 metres.

To register for the climb go to http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/deep-water-solo-exeter-2014-registration-11055911529?aff=estw

We will be offering free performance coaching sessions.
Keith, Ian and a team of A Mind 4 Adventure trained coaches will be offering free coaching sessions from Wednesday 27th August (in the evenings) and throughout the weekend to both competitors and other climbers taking part in the event. It is an open invite but people are encouraged to contact us ahead of the event to book a slot. The team will be based in the Physio Treatment Room.
